Recently a problem was submitted to The Ghana Think Tank about police harassment in Corona. We decided to do some research on Roosevelt Ave. and we got this statement from a young man:
Yes, I have been harassed by cops and so have a lot of my friends. The cops look for you based on how you are dressed, maybe you have a baggy shirt or baggy jeans. Look at me I don´t even dress like that.
They ask you for an ID and if you don´t have one they take you to jail. The fine is $150.00 They tell you you shouldn’t be hanging around but what if I am meeting my girlfriend. I have to wait for her or what if I am waiting for my mother to get off of the train. What´s wrong with that?
I think cops should have better education about how to talk to people and so that they don´t just think they know you are doing something wrong because of how you dress or how you look.
